What is Meditation

In simple terms meditation is act of focusing mind in only one thing and finally making it thoughtless. Mind becomes clear, calm and relaxed when it is empty. 

In ancient Hindu religious book ,Veda, mediation is called Dhyana.Root of meditation is still uknown and ancient thought and practices of meditation was tramitted orally form generation to generation for thousands of years. Later it was coded in written vedas in vedic books. In vedaic tradition, meditation is a method of realizing spripual self. It is very important step for apprihension of divine in practice of Yoga . 

In Buddhism, Vepasena is the oldest method of meditation. Buddhist use meditation as a path towards awakening. 

In Jainism, meditation is called Shukla Dhayana. It is central part of spiritual practice in Jain tradition. Jain Meditation is seen as way of realizing self and taking soul to complete freedom.

In Taoism, meditation refers to practice of concentration,mindfulness, contemplation. In Taoist Meditation, verious mediative technique are practiced.
